My '96 Indy Ram

For those that are not up on the whole Indy Ram thing, here's the strait skinny.

The 1996 Indianapolis 500 pacing duties went to the incredible Dodge Viper GTS. As Most of us know, these cars were painted a special blue color (only available on the GTS in '96) and carried wide double white stripes centered down the length of the car. When an auto maker is honored with the privilege of pacing the 500, they most always offer, to the public, "commemorative Indy 500 Pace Car" versions of the car that had the duty. In this case Dodge thought it a little silly to offer a "Special Edition" of a car that was to cost $70k already... a few extra stickers wouldn't get 'em stampeding the showrooms! So they put together the '96 Dodge Ram Indy 500 "Official Truck". I got one.

I've seen various estimates on production #'s, all of which vary greatly. What I understand is that all Indys were made in one run, and dealers were to get there orders in by a certain date or they would just get an Indy optioned randomly. I was told each dealer got one however there was a lot of swapping and inter-dealer dealings and many dealerships sold more than one. Again, all of this is hearsay... don't quote me. They all came with 360s rated at 245 HP, special 17" wheels, free flow exhaust, white striping with the "DODGE" across the windshield and color keyed grill and bumpers.

This is my present daily transportation. I have never owned a vehicle that I have enjoyed more than this one. It has lots of room inside, even for traveling, and can tow a trailer with a large B body with no problem. Besides that, it looks and sounds really cool!
