Pressurized Sand Blaster
Now this one I
have some experience with... more than I care to remember. Though not the
most popular task in restoration, sandblasting can be one of the most productive.
Those old engine compartments are no match for the efficient cleaning power
of a pressurized sandblaster.
Sandblasting in general is an excellent means of removing old paint and rust from large areas. A siphon fed works well, but slow, as compared to a pressurized unit. I started with a siphon fed hooked up to my roll around compressor and as my compressor strength grew, so did my sandblaster.
TIP offers models in all sizes. I believe the one I have is considered the best all around for the backyard enthusiast. It's called a "99'er" and is very well built. I've seen lower cost units advertised by various companies and would probably give them a try if you were on a limited budget. TIP does have "refurbished" units for sale from time to time so you might check them out.
