Week #108
I got the hood over to Tim (bodyman) as promised. I think he was a bit disappointed in it's condition. I had cleaned and epoxy primed the underside before delivery but had done nothing to the top. We ran our hands across the surface... of course I had done this before... as he pointed out how wavy and beat up it was. I couldn't argue but this was what I had and it would have to do. You can pretty much come up with a door or a deck lid in a pinch... but a rust free '70 air grabber hood... not unless you got a bunch of money sitting along side that horseshoe stuck up your... well, anyhoo. Over the next few day he would work on it until he got pissed, then he would move on to something else... then come back to it until he was pissed again, you get the picture. It looks like it is damn straight to me but he says it's got it's share of filler.
Since having to replace the deck lid, there are very few original panel/parts still with the car. One door and the upper panel that has the hood spring on it are about the only survivors. I had delivered the lower valance, the upper panel and the vertical piece that holds the hood latch mechanism to Tim soon after the hood. I knew that he would be assembling the front end for fit very soon. All went together OK but there was a little trouble with the front end pieces. It took us a while to determine the problem areas but all was OK and things proceeded normally.
I will be starting on the DANA shortly in preparation for the car coming home. Won't that be fun!
