Week #92
Well, I'm getting closer to buttoning up the passenger sides quarter. Before this can be done I will need to protect the innards from future corrosion. I don't think that these inner areas of the quarters and the surrounding areas are know for deteriorating but since the whole mess is laying there wide open for me to see I might as well break out the POR 15.
One of the greatest purchases I have ever made was a big stack of really cheap paint brushes. You can find these smaller 1" "disposable brushes for as low as 5 for a dollar at your local hardware store. They couldn't be more well suited for use on coating small areas with POR15. This stuff is not the kind of stuff that you would want to bother with trying to clean out your brushes. The absolute best way to work with POR15 is to break open a new brush, throw a piece of cardboard or plastic under your work, put on a pair of those throw away latex gloves and go to it. After your done throw the gloves and brush on the plastic, wad it all up and throw it away!
I coated the welded splices I had made at the outer wheelhouse along with the area that the window glass mechanism is mounted. Obviously my recommendation is to brush POR15 on instead of spraying. It "flows out" to the point where it is hard to believe it was applied with a brush.
After letting it dry overnight I reinstalled my freshly cleaned and lubed glass roller upper. This mechanism hasn't worked this well since it was new. Hey, wait... do you know what this means? This is a truly monumental point in this project! I have just put something back ON the car! WOO-HOO!!!
