Week #94
Now we're getting down to the nitty gritty. The only thing between me and a welded on quarter panel is the installation of the trunk extension on this side. That was the task at hand for today.
I had cut the required hole for the drain style body plug a few weeks back so all the prep left on this panel was to trim some edges to shape, punch some carefully placed spot weld holes and paint some POR15 on the surface that would be facing the inside of the quarter panel. After deciding which side I would be welding the spots from I again snatched up the flanging-punching tool and had at it. This process was quick as was the POR15 part. After that it was simply a matter of clamping everything in place... including the quarter panel to insure everything was in the right place... and start welding.
For the most part 'till now all the welding has been spot welds or continuous welds that would be in none critical or hidden areas. The next time I fire up the welder it will be for attaching the quarter panel to the car. I have to admit... I'm a little nervous about it.
